  6.     Her face the sinking stars desire:
  7.     Unto her place the slow deeps bring
  8.     Shadow of errant winds that wing
  9.     O'er sterile gulfs of foam and fire.
  10.  
  11.     Her beauty is the light of pearls.
  12.     AII stars and dreams and sunsets die
  13.     To make the fluctuant glooms that lie
  14.     Around her; and low noonlight swirls
  15.  
  16.     Down ocean's firmamental deep
  17.     To weave for who glimmers there
  18.     Elusive visions, vague and fair;
  19.     And night is as a dreamless sleep:
  20.  
  21.     She has not known the night's unrest
  22.     Nor the white curse of clearer day;
  23.     The tremors of the tempest play
  24.     Like slow delight about her breast.
  25.  
  26.     The berylline pallors of her face
  27.     Illume the kingdom of the drowned.
  28.     In her the love that none has found,
  29.     The unflowering rapture, folded grace,
  30.  
  31.     Await some lover strayed and lone,
  32.     Some god misled, who shall not come
  33.     Though the decrescent seas lie dumb
  34.     And sunken in their wells of stone.
  35.  
  36.     But nevermore of him, perchance,
  37.     Her enigmatic musings are,
  38.     Whose purpling tresses float afar
  39.     In grottoes of the last romance.
  40.  
  41.     Serene, an immanence of fire
  42.     She dwells for ever, ocean-thralled,
  43.     Soul of the sea's vast emerald.
